Assessing Conflict Resolution Today
Dates of the Conference: December 16-18, 2023
The Conflict Studies Research Center at the Arab American University of Palestine plans to hold its annual conference titled “Conflict Resolution Redefined.”
The conference, scheduled to take place on December 16-18, 2023, will critically review and reexamine the definition of Conflict Resolution. In an effort to redeem it as a definition, scholars have emphasized the vital role culture plays in explicating structures of power that may be incriminated through a biased understanding of the term. As such redefining it liberates the term from its Eurocentric past. Furthermore, it frames conflict resolution studies within its natural context of the social sciences fleshing out the centrality of social and political theories in our understanding of the field today. It also contextualizes peace studies and reconciliation within the larger umbrella of conflict resolution and situates it at the center of the discussion on social and global justice, inclusion, and multiculturalism.
The conference will also examine different themes around the redefinition of conflict resolution as such Conflict resolution – Redefined; The Centrality of Culture Today; The Bankruptcy of the West; Reconciliation in the International Arena; Cosmopolitan Conflict resolution today; Cosmopolitan conflict resolution and Palestine.
We invite scholars and practitioners to submit abstracts for papers and presentations. The abstract should include a brief description of what the presentation will cover (about 400 words). Presentations based on theoretical and empirical work will be considered, as well as papers based on practical experience. Contributions from all relevant social sciences and the humanities are welcome.

The deadline for receiving abstracts is October 10, 2023. Invitations to submit papers will be issued by November 20, 2023, and papers should be submitted in full by December 1, 2023.

يخطط مركز أبحاث دراسات الصراع في الجامعة العربية الأمريكية في فلسطين لعقد مؤتمره السنوي بعنوان "إعادة تعريف حل النزاعات".
سيقوم المؤتمر المقرر عقده في الفترة من 16 إلى 18 كانون الاول 2023 ، بمراجعة نقدية وإعادة النظر في مفهوم حل النزاعات في محاولة لاستردادها كتعريف، حيث أكد الباحثون على الدور الحيوي الذي تلعبه الثقافة في تفسير هياكل السلطة التي قد يتم تجريمها من خلال الفهم المتحيز للمصطلح، كما ان إعادة تعريفه يحرر المصطلح من ماضيه الأوروبي. بالاضافة الى ذلك، فإنه يؤطر دراسات حل النزاعات في سياقها الطبيعي للعلوم الاجتماعية التي تجسد مركزية النظريات الاجتماعية والسياسية في فهمنا لهذا المجال اليوم. ويضع دراسات السلام والمصالحة في سياقها ضمن المظلة الأكبر لحل النزاعات وفي قلب النقاش حول العدالة الاجتماعية والعالمية والإدماج والتعددية الثقافية.
سيشمل المؤتمر أيضًا مواضيع مختلفة حول إعادة تعريف حل النزاعات:
· إعادة تعريف حل النزاعات.
· مركزية الثقافة اليوم.
· إفلاس الغرب.
· المصالحة في الساحة الدولية.
· حل النزاعات العالمية اليوم.
· حل الصراع العالمي وفلسطين.
ندعو الباحثين والممارسين لتقديم ملخصات للأوراق والعروض التقديمية. يجب أن يتضمن الملخص وصفا موجزا لما سيغطيه العرض التقديمي (حوالي 400 كلمة)، حيث سيتم النظر في العروض التقديمية القائمة على العمل النظري والتجريبي ، وكذلك الأوراق القائمة على الخبرة العملية. نرحب بالمساهمات من جميع العلوم الاجتماعية والإنسانية ذات الصلة.
يجب تقديم الملخصات عبر البريد الإلكتروني إلى pcrscaaup.edu.
الموعد النهائي لتلقي الملخصات هو 10 تشرين الاول 2023، سيتم إصدار دعوات تقديم الأوراق بحلول 20 تشرين الثاني2023 ، ويجب تقديم الأوراق بالكامل بحلول 1 كانون الاول 2023.
